Autism Spectrum
Disorders
about
Autism Spectrum Disorders is an educational resource – a book and a video course – produced by the Outfund, which works to address autism in Russia. The course is intended for a wide range of professionals: psychologists, pediatricians, child psychiatrists, speech therapists, educators, and students in medical, psychological, and pedagogical fields.
Project specifics
The Outfund has a well-established visual identity, and this project fully adopts it. The book has a highly complex structure – and the grid follows suit. Another challenge was the dual footnote system: one set of references links to the Autism Encyclopedia, the other to Autism Studies. These needed to be visually consistent – yet instantly distinguishable from one another at first glance.

I’d also like to highlight the cover – I believe this graphic metaphor successfully captures the essence of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Integrated approach
It was clear from the start that the course included both a book and a series of video lectures, with identical content across both formats. That meant reinterpreting the book’s modular grid for video – planning how infographics, footnotes, and supporting information would appear across
both media
Modular grid
Given the complexity of the content structure, the grid needed to be highly flexible. The final book uses a range of typographic techniques – from drop caps and indents to more complex compositional solutions. I worked alongside a highly skilled production designer, and together we were able to fully realize its potential
visual identity
The foundation’s visual identity includes brand colors, typefaces, and guidelines for print materials. Still, a publication of this complexity left plenty to solve on the design side – for instance, how to present infographics using only the brand color palette
Process
  • 01
Developed the design concept for key spreads of the book
  • 02
Handed off design materials for layout, designed infographics
  • 03
Oversaw page layout, assisted with complex spreads
  • 04
Designed cover sketches, prepared the selected option for production
  • 05
Adapted the book design for the video course format
  • 06
Developed and handed over motion design guidelines
Video course
The design had to be adapted for video: adjusting text size and formatting to ensure optimal legibility on screen, fine‑tuning line weights for infographics to account for video compression algorithms, and preparing a detailed guideline for the motion designer
