Rosseti Annual
Report 2018
about
In 2019, I was commissioned by Suvenir-Design to develop concept sketches for the Rosseti annual report — and later refine the winning concept. The concept treats digitalization as a new stage in the evolution of things, much like the invention of electricity once was.
Project specifics
Annual reports for large corporations are full of things designers typically dread: complex structures, massive amounts of infographics – some sections are entirely made up of them. On top of that, the production chain is long, involving multiple teams and sometimes more than one agency.

Despite all that, this report won Gold in the Best Annual Report category at the Marcom Awards 2019.
concept art
The concept visualizes how everyday objects – first transformed or invented with the advent of electricity – are now evolving again with digitalization. A unifying electric blue ties together the original, "warm" inventions and their modern counterparts, contrasted through color and
graphic style
Printing technology
The printed version used Pantone colors – both blue and bronze metallic – to stay true to the concept. These were custom-mixed inks, which allowed us to use them across both body text and infographics. That’s a challenge for composite CMYK colors, so this was a deliberate and carefully executed choice
art direction
A project like this is always a team effort. There are copy-editing stages that affect layout, the layout itself – typically handled by one or two production designers – and my role as the concept author is creative supervision. Prepress, press proof approval, and coordinating with production are the tail of the comet that is annual report design
Process
  • 01
Conducted pre‑project research to develop the overall concept
  • 02
    Developed sketch concepts for
    the report design
  • 03
Refined key spreads and handed off
    for layout
  • 04
Designed key infographics and section openers
  • 05
Oversaw layout quality and copyediting integration
  • 06
    Supervised prepress and post‑press finishing
Alternative concept
For a project of this scale, the client never chooses from a single option. Often, it’s a tender – with any number of agencies competing. I typically present 2−3 sketch concepts per project. The Rosseti annual report was no exception. Below, you’ll see a completely different concept – also rooted in the idea of digital transformation, but with a distinct visual take
